Stellantis-Leapmotor Deal Signals China's Auto Gamble in Europe
Stellantis has deepened its strategic partnership with Chinese automaker Leapmotor, enabling Leapmotor to produce a model for the European market by 2028. The collaboration involves jointly developing an electric SUV under the Opel brand, to be manufactured at Stellantis' Spanish plant in Zaragoza. This move helps bolster Stellantis' European presence while allowing Leapmotor to circumvent EU sourcing rules and potential tariffs. The deal highlights a broader industry trend, as competitors like Ford and Volkswagen are also reportedly exploring similar alliances with Chinese automakers.
